Narvik Shield Factory Samples

The one on the cloth backing with the label “Nr. 3 Cupal” is interesting. To my novice eyes, that seems to suggest a sample - which may be where the idea of factory samples came from? Can anyone explain this configuration?

Yes I agree with you Michael.. they are all very interesting especially that one on the backing cloth with the label. I've never seen any like this which is why they caught my interest straight away..

Indeed very interesting thread.
I agree with the sharpness but that could also be the pictures. I use to scan my shields which is much sharper as pictures.

That is why it would be very interesting to study one of these shields personally in hand.

I do not think these are prototypes. I think more in the line of (as the titles says) factory samples on which no prongs are attached.

What I initially thought were cast in guide holes are, in fact. drilled holes. My mistake for not really examining the images with greater scrutiny.

Many thanks for your opinion on these and agreeing with pascal.. they really are both lovely pieces, and yes as you said the holes are drilled rather than cast into the shield. They are even more amazing in hand than the photos can show..

Very interesting thread.
I must admit a know little to nothing about the Narvik shields and only own 3 campaign shield in general.

In my eyes there are differences between these 2 shields, I attached and highlighted areas the stung me a little. But there a also the eagles head, thickness of the "1" and more witch I didnt highlight.

I am here to learn also and maybe this is a silly questions but ..

Is that common among Narvik shields of the same manufacturer to have that big differences? Or is it rather just from Factory example to "mass production" ?
Or something else that explains it ?

Thanks for your comments. First of all, there are no silly questions only silly answers

It is not common for a manufacturer to have big differences, at least not in the same die. I also noticed some differences between the 2 shields. But you have to take into account that the shield was photographed (and not scanned) underneath a plastic cover and at an angle. This maybe explains some of the differences but I would love to personally examine one of these shields in hand.

hehe no, not really There is no deep msg here ( I am a very shallow man) and not sure why I would not say my opinions openly on a media witch works only on opinions.

Like I said below, its hard to compare from photos, when I stare at a small section of the screen and get tired, I start to see what I want to see.
Was answering Pascals comment on it would be easier to have them in hand.
