What relation do the Waffen-SS have to Narvik? ...

Not sure what that has to do with anything in this context but FWIW i know of at least one later W-SS officer who was at Narvik whilst in the KM.

You have to take into consideration the fact that almost 5 years passed between the Narvik campaign and the end of the war. During that time more than a few who qualified for the award transferred to other units or even arms of service.

You seriously think that a 73 year can will be the original thing in excellent condition that before that no one has seen? With this approach can be any copy add to the original. This is amateurish approach.

Yes, I believe these shields to be real.
I think this is the so called "Juncker" type shield or type 3 in the pinned thread.

Here is a comparing picture of both shields

Now what is fascinating are the holes in the shield.
Have a look at the picture in Nimmergut's book "Deutsche Orden und Ehrenzeichen" and compare it with the shields posted in this thread.

That is like saying nothing can be in mint condition after 73 years.. when clearly they can as you find a lot of mint/unissued items in this hobby.

Also, that means no new discoveries can be found ever ? The book is written, case closed and doors shut on everything ? That seems to be a foolish approach..

No problem, we are all here to learn and is the right place by all means, having said that as Pascal said correctly is got the typical Juncker features which he has al ready shown to us all, as for the hole, could they be done for attaching the shields into the uniform?, do they have intact prongs?

Yes I believe that is what they are for, the golden/copper coloured shield still has remnants of thread in the holes.. one is attached to a piece of backing material and has a label if you check the photos where I first posted..

No backing prongs or backing plates are present on these shields.. photos of the reverse of each Shield is on this thread also
