We should consider also that the power of the strike of a worn down die can cause some other problems:
a not correct powerful strike of a worn down die = missing details.

Anf if we add the lack of details in a shield lacking in details the result is IMO what we see showed here at the beginning of the thread.

There are some die flaws that are perfectly matching with originals, and IMO are impossible to copy as the metal "bridge" between the beak and the wing.

I just went through my database (again) and found the exact same shield.
This shield was about 10 years ago sold by Winkler.

Kevin,

Not the same pattern shield as the one previously discussed in this thread. Different shield altogether.

If you can take some larger photos and start a new thread, I'm sure many here would be happy to assist.

I was getting ready to comment further here as I have one of these shields of the pattern previously discussed but then seen the thread was over a year old.

I'll post some PIC's for future reference and add my two cents.

We've discussed this shield, in some depth I thought back around 2009 or so and often referred to this pattern as a T-Rex due to the shape of the head. Its been awhile for me discussing shields or anything 3rd Reich for that matter and I don't remember every little detail, but I thought I remember reading or talking to someone that this might in fact be a shield attributed to Carl Wilde. I don't know that for fact, but has anyone else heard or possibly confirm that?

Here's mine from several years ago. I never really liked the softer details on these but there are other unknown examples out there even softer than this version.

I do see some of the differences between mine and the one originally starting the thread, mainly in the minute detailing already called out.

I do tend to think many of these later produced shields lack detail compared to the earlier produced examples, but would agree its not attributed to shield wear but die related. I'll post some close ups and you can compare. You will note the slight rust/corrosion going on towards the eagle's top, ridge of the wing, and on the swastika.

Tried to remove the glare so the details are a bit easier to see.

I wanted to add, these are not rare or even scarce to find. I think this is probably the most commonly seen pattern currently showing on almost every dealer site I've looked at in the last couple of weeks.
