Near Mint Silver Narvik and LDO Packet - Straight From Vet Family Today

I obtained this Narvik shield as part of a larger grouping directly from the Vet's family this morning.

I am not 100% sure the LDO cellophane packet came with it, but they were next to each other in the Soldier's Purple Heart Carton.

I posted the shield earlier in another forum but would appreciate your comments and ideas on the manufacturer. See below the Narvik and LDO packet with the rest of the Vet grouping:

Most likely the LDO bag does belong to this shield, which is often found with one.

Does anyone know WHO is the maker of this shield? I want to know if it's a Pforzheim maker, maybe even Muller.

All the unissued condition medals in the Vet grouping with maker marks on them are Muller at this point.

Hi Jeff,

The maker of this shield is unknown. There are in fact no definite makers known of Narvik shields. Only speculations.

It is very interesting that this shield came with a lot of other stuff all from a Pforzheim maker. A couple of years ago there was a horde find of magnetic Narvik shields. These were the same type as yours (which I presume is made from zinc).
These magnetic shields were also found very near the Pforzheim area.

I was thinking out loud on the thread I referenced above. Would be interested to know if it's possible the shield was made in Schwaebisch Gmund?

Although I didn't mentioned Schwaebisch Gmund in my reply and I didn't read the thread you mentioned, it was indeed from the Schwaebisch Gmund area that the magnetic Narvik shields came from.

These shields were sold at the 2007 Stuttgart Militaria & Antique fair by an antique dealer (from the Schwaebisch Gmund area) who didn't know anything about militaria. All of the shields (some even in their paper rapers) were bought by a militaria dealer who sold them the same day at the militaria fair for x times the amount he bought them for. I was lucky enough to acquire such a shield together with the rapper.

Even at that time there was a strong suspicion that the maker was Alois Rettenmaier although there has never been definite proof for this.

I would say my Vet find may give very strong evidence to naming this Narvik design to Rettenmaier.
