As Cupal consists of a plating of copper on aluminium I don't think it is possible to cast a shield in Cupal. Cupal shield are always die struck from Cupal sheets.

That's true...what I meant was cast alloy with a silver wash.
It's an unissued shield. I can definitely see a copper color showing underneath the shield in places. I just can't tell for sure if it's a copper wash. But if it's a wash there shouldn't be the layering right? I don't know if this helps but it looks identical to the shield in Niemann's big 50lbs catalogue.
I took a tooth pick & loupe and there seems to be a small ridge separating the "layer" Maybe all the zinks are post war like the Frontkjempers Is there any relation to the unknown maker cupal para badges?
