        ........

I don't agree Jan...I don't like the Krim. The Lappland could be ok, what's the story behind it.

            Hi Peter,

What is wrong with the Krim? I thought this was a good one.

            Thanks,
            Joe

              Krim

Hi Joe....I'm looking at the islands and coastlines which look either too blobby or too angular also the '2' looks a bit odd....maybe I'm wrong...

                Hi everyone

The Krim is a 100% fake. It's one of those helmet types.

The lappland shield came from a german veteran estates family with a war journal. I have seen similar variations earlier and from what I recall, there were a couple of patterns that were more common. Most common most be the alu shield that is made almost black.

Personally, unless I received it off an unquestionable provenance, I'd stay away from LappLand shields.

How can you tell if they were made in 1945 or 1995?

                          ........

Jan, the Krim that started this thread is the copy that is based on the 2 shields you show (post 12).

I think this was discussed a couple of months ago, I'm sure you'll find it if you do a search.

The Krim shield from Fisherman (or Schönbeck) is without a doubt an original shield. This is, as Jan already explained, one of the 2 variations of a certain unknown maker.

The Lappland shield is of course a different story. As most of these shields are coming without any provenance it depends on what you believe (or want to believe).

If my Grandfather was entitled to a Lappland shield (which he wasn't) and he decided in 1995 to make one would it be original or not??

That being said I like the one posted by Fisherman, but that doesn't make it original.

Could I ask you which unit the veteran was from? It's quite important. If we are ever going to have a chance of learning more about these shields then we have to record their type and the unit of the holder when they turn up in groups\estates. Gather enough data and it might just be possible to attribute certain types to certain units as we can do with the documents.
