      Narvik Shield

      Hello,
I have an issue with the shield, I don't like the backing (most real KM Narviks that I have seen have cloth backings), or the gilt finish, and I would like a close-up of the front. It is hard for me to see the details to the dates, eagle wreath and edelweiss (it is very blury-at least to me to see anything).

      Regards,
      Jody

Here is my tombak example (Juncker type):

            Hi

Could someone please explain the small 4 theory to me and if at all possible post a side by side pic.

Should the tail of the 9 not extend to below the 1 as can be seen on Jody's badge above or am i off the mark here.

                Hi Kenneth,

This fake was based upon the so called Deschler shield. Here is a real one. This example was issued to Luftwaffe personnel. Go into the "General Awards Forum" and run a search. There is plenty of information on this fake.

                    Hi Joe,
Are you sure that the LW shield posted is original (overly detailed edelweiss, rope, etc)? It also looks too flat. It looks a lot like this example: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...=Narvik+shield

                    Regards,
                    Jody

Here is the Deumer type (I sold it on E-stand last year):

                        Hi Jody,

This one is 100% original. They are not this good at faking yet, I hope.

                          My thoughts:

Joe's--good; what used to be thought of as a Deschler shield. Always tell this type for the excessive bubbling to the finish on the front side. Pascal has changed his mind on the maker though, so currently unknown I think.

                          Jody's--1st one is a classic "snaggle-tooth" in tombak--great shield!
Second one--good Deumer with the filled in neck area.

Mike's--bad. One of the more common copies flooding the market and discussed in the General Award Forum. The flock and "small 4" are similar, but equally bad.

                          Tim

                            Hi Tim,

I did not know Pascal changed his mind on these. What changed his mind? That's what I love about this forum, learn something new everyday.

PS: Beautiful shield Jody, I need to find the Luft version.

                              Hi Joe,
Well I will stand corrected, that is good to know, I had not seen that pattern before.
