Hi all,
This is a pretty scarce little badge, not really known among many collectors either.
In my opinion (like the D******252;nkirchen shield) this belongs in the categorie campaign shields but never is recognized as such.
Anyway my judgement: as it is a fairly uncommon, unknown to many it is not the a badge that I would fake if I wanted to make a quick buck.... so I would not say they are fakes just yet.
We need more background information first as there is a big probablitiy that there were multiple companies with minor variances in manufacturing details explaining the differences shown here.
Best all images and details of these shields among us are collected in one thread and be examined and compared to make the (logical) theory as I think much original information has been lost.

Hi Bob,
The one I own is aluminum. The other one posted appears to be brass.I'm not familiar with that version. I did another comparison of yours with mine to point out what appear to be differences. The letters on yours appear to be crowded together. JimAttached Files

yep,
if you see the hooks for the needle, mine is different although from a geographical point of view the differenes between the two are minimal. Mines are identical.
One was bought from weitze one year ago, the other from milshop 4 weeks ago.
It is strange that boths identical come from two different seller.
The one from Wiliamson is similar to your.
If you are sure about the origin of your, i think that can be considered original. Mines not....

I think Gordons and mine are identical. Thats really the only version I'm familiar with. Doesn't mean there weren't other manufacturers.
Mine came from a vet here in town along with the two 5th Mountain division cap badges shown below.WR JimAttached Files
