Very strange that suddenly 3 identical shields turn up……………

Cholm shields are very rare and there aren’t a lot of original shields around. Stijn Davids just wrote a very impressive article about a Cholm veteran see also this thread article on posthumously awarding of the Cholmshield etc..

So to be sure if this shield is original or not one needs definite much better scans as it is impossible to tell from these scans.
    Many Thanks Pascal.

I Will Be Glad To Send The Shield In My Possesion To Any One That Would Like To Examine It,i Personally Think It Is A Reproduction, but Have No Proof Other Than My Gut Feeling And Shield Itself Does Not Comform To Known Originals. So,if You Want To Examine It,pm Me And We Can Set It Up.with Respect Ron

I believe the shield that Bob posted is a reproduction. I firmly believe this based on the examples I have owned, currently own, and have examined up close.

Details of the shield in question. I can tell the holes are stamped in from the reverse of the shield.

                Dear Bob,

IMO these new pics leave little possibility for the shield being the real thing. For example, very weird beak area.
                Cheers, Frank

                  Hello Frank,

I thank you for the comments and your observations. I just can't seem to get the photos defined enough to illustrate both the upper and lower beak. Here are more tries with a little rubbing of the rust.

A slight angle upward to try and show lower beak.

                          Cholmshield

                          Hello,

The shields shown here with the holes on top and under part are fakes (as Gene etc ... pointed out already).

A Cholmshield must have razorsharp details, etc ... The fact that paper etc .. is present and no traces of heavy rust shown on that should already be a concercn, while comparing the front in the first picture (it looks well oxidized).

Holes where sometimes applyed, but not from the factory out. This was done by the wearer while the original shield was damaged in a way or to attach it better towards the uniform. The shield that Pascal does referr towards was not this from this type to be clear. It was a Type 1 shield where the pins where broken of (so no backing plate, etc ... was anymore available.)

                          Cordial greetings,
