Hello,
There are genuine, war-time 26-marked EK's that are in mint condition. The story is they came from Russia - they were taken from a supply train bound for the East Front that was captured by Partisans. There are a couple of dealers that still have some.

Hello to all! And, here we are again on the old ground that can never be known. The legends and story are biggest every time. Now we have the bandits getting them. we should be realistic in the thinking and see the older discussions about these findings. And if the story is told often and loudest enough it soon is the truth for the one who wants it that way. Surely for the one selling the story.

The story came from 2 very respected authorities in this field. Both are members of this Forum.

While rumors are dangerous, the sources of this information are such that I will accept their word as gold.

Hello Mike, yes I read the "story" during the last of the posting. It was from a Russian Museum (celler) then! In yet another time I think the box of mint IC will be from the submarine. Surely, these dealers know the one they bought it from and from what museum it was found. My celler is cold and damp in all the year. Ofcourse even the good dealers should pay the rent! find this old post and look at the informations there.

Mike , I am certainly not an expert in this field by a long shot, but i will have to agree with kurt about these stories. I have seen badges for sale on sites with Highseas Fleet badge second pattern- you know the one with the four bridge windows? And my favorite so far" looks to be period repaired". Are these sources of yours dealers? Respectfully--Ron

Although I have no reason not to believe the story of these 26 marked EK I's, everytime I hear it, there is a little bit more information than the last time. The Partisan twist is new, not to mention quite dramatic.

As far as the awesome condition of these crosses, I heard that not all were like that, just the ones in the middle of the stack or something. So where are the ones in lesser condition? Seem like either these are the pristine "found in Russia" or your typical worn, run of the mill, everyday 26 marked crosses.

The 26 marked crosses are by no means rare. It seems the market has been inundated with them. I've seen them in various conditions. Whatever they are, they are nice well-made crosses.

Are you suggesting that the 4 window High Seas fleet badge is not good? If so, do you have reasons (other than 4 windows) to think so? The quality 4 window is quite different from the standard repro 4 window.

I have one which looks great and correct in every other way that I know of. But I'm also a subscriber of the "critical mass" theory of authenticity - If enough of the senior spokesmen of the hobby accept an item as original it becomes original. The internet facilitates this process.

Starting a new post on this subject might be a good thing, there was a discussion on this some time ago but don't remember the details.
I do know there are fakes of this 4 window type and real ones. Jamie cross has one for sale right now.

If we assume that these captured medals, if they are that, were taken out of some form of bulk storage, it may be that many corroded, & these did not go on the market at all.
