Richard,
You are absolutely right. It is an original wartime Deumer piece. After the war, they used up old stocks of wartime pieces by soldering the "new" 1939 centre over the top of the swastika. The reverse still carries the Deumer "3" Präsidialkanzlei mark
Now what about the EK anyone ?

The EK2 is a Souval "1957" piece. Using up stocks of old frames but with a plain blank centre. They made the EK1 the same way.
In fact Steinhauer actually also made a "1957" Knights Cross with a plain centre, no oakleaves.

Dear Gordon,
I bet many people owning such a two piece 1957 KVK1 will try to pry off the new center piece to "restore" it into a wartime item. While nobody should do this, it would be interesting to know if this could be done and what traces it would leave with the item. E.g, is the new center soldered on in just some, let´s say 4, points or is it a massive glob of solder that "ruined" the whole swaz? Are you able to see that by looking at the item or did you ever see a "cracked" one?
Cheers, Frank H.Cheers, Frank
