I think "design" and "quality" are 2 separate issues, and I would agree that the design of the Deumer pieces is sometimes not as good as S&L, the CCC being a good example, while the quality of some Deumer pieces is sometimes better than S&L's the DK surely being a good example??
I love 'em all!!!!!!!!!

Beautiful badges both.
I think the excitement over Deumer results from the rarity more than the quality, and the company history behind it what with Deumer starting out with '57 production, putting out a catalog and then deciding to leave the future market to S&L. When you combine that history with an early piece worn by a veteran it all acts to increase collector interest (for me anyway).
Best regards,

Congrats on two beatiful awards!!
As far as Deumer versus S&L, I would say have them both in hand, and then make a judgement. Based upon what I have been able to compare, Deumer exceeds in quality, design characteristics, etc. As Nigel noted, except for the CCC. Why Deumer made without a separate backplate, who knows? In the end, they are all fun to collect, no matter the maker!
Best,
Jeff
