I have one with magnetic core, have a look. What does that mean "Austrian"? Sorry I am not aware of this, this is why I kept that cross because I didn't know what was that.
Do believe the EK1 / EK2 shown in initial post to be original 1957 issue style items produces by Souval.
Do you have a snapshot of the other side as well ? So we can see the hardware on the EK1.
As to the EK2 in second post, do believe a reproduction piece ....
I am with Mathijs on both Brien's Souval's......
Mathijs is also correct regarding Novara's EK, which is a reproduction, does not conform to known Souval traits....super rounded corners, the birds feet, EK II suspension ring only soldered on one side....see these superb images done by Nick, member "Mustangstje" (taken from another forum)...which illustrate these points perfectly.
I have never seen an "Austrian blank core" with the "1813" date on reverse.........unfortunately Andrew, I have to ask, "Where have you been getting your stock from" it looks like you are being whizzed one !
Prost ! Steve.
No I was referring to the two that began the post. They have the blank core found on the 1813 cross with obvious Souval frames. I wasn't referring to the fake with 1813 on the reverse. Sorry for the confusion.
Guys!
You should know nothing is straightforward with Souval!!!
The piece's Brien showed are textbook early Souval's, the one that Andrew showed is more of an "unknown"
It is basically Souval's attempt at at Schinkel "B", normally they have a swastika core, and I think for a while were considered genuine wartime made pieces? Anyway, they were definitely postwar copies!!
Its likely that these EK's had a two piece core, separate obverse and reverse, so what has happened here, is that Souval have swopped the normal swastika obverse core for a blank one!!
The question is, was this done just as a collectors piece, or as a piece made for vet wear, which the normal blank cores were!!
Unfortunately, at the moment, the answer is unknown! I have seen a couple before, and thought about buying one for study, so Andrew, if you ever decide to part with this one, please drop me a PM!!!
