Hi Guys,
This begs the question as to why someone would go to all that effort. It makes sense for someone who makes fakes for profit to cast a wartime award and try to move it for a significant profit, but why go to all this effort to make an easily spotted casting of a '57? No possible profit there.
Unless it's a "real" '57, cast by someone with the intent for wear by a veteran who doesn't care about the quality issues that collectors raise? Either way, it's an inexpensive bauble but just wondering what motivates people...
Best regards,
---Norm

If only we knew. There are even fakes of the 1914-1918 Honour Cross about and they are about the cheapest medal you can get.
Best regards

It does seem strange why anyone bothers to fake the lower end medals, but they've all been faked, even the commonest ones!!!
As to why this one is so poor?? Who knows, maybe some fakers think that some (later) 57ers are so poor, that a bad casting like this could fool someone, and i guess the fact that the piece is here for discussion prooves that not everyone was 100% sure its a bad one???
I'm pretty sure that fakers take notice of the various fora and the pieces shown on them, now they know Souval produced some cast 57ers, perhaps they think they can pass off any cast piece as a "scarce" variant???
