Well.. I guess not all war vets were specially open to talk about their experiences. I believe SS comrades groups (like HIAG) were very reclusive to collectors or WWII
            enthusiasts.

Here is what he said to me at an OdR reunion: "The only thing is dislike more than an America is a Britt and an Australian, now get the hell away from me or I'll have you arrested" unquote Tom

I wonder if he said that to the US Army officer standing to his left -- you can barely see the cuff of the army mess dress uniform. [Artillery Colonel? I can barely make out the pointed wing tip and the arrows on the base.]

Wunsche claims to have been severely mis-treated after his capture (beaten etc.) by allied soldiers. IMO all he was was a rude old jerk! I received a signed photo of him only after it was obtained by a W-SS friend of his.

                      Hi Tom! Good info..

This was posted on the Axis History Forum (I found interesting the part about his medals)

According to H Meyers book about the 12 SS-Pz.Div. Wünsche was captured by the british, and was the day after his capture (which he was held in a animalcage, half sunk into water) brought infront of Fieldmarshal Montgomery, who told Wünsche that the british treated all soldiers according to the Geneve Convention, but not the SS who where political scum and worms. During his and the other two escape from the falaise pocket they took away all awards and insignia that indicated that they where officers and members of the SS. I Wonder if his awards still is buried somewhere in Falaise, unfortunately he's dead since 1995 so we´ll never get an answer on that.

He appears to be wearing a DK in the picture with the other two guys. No doubt he would have been horrified at such treatment and Monty would have felt justified at making such sweeping generalizations. Both sides did the same sort of thing and everyone had a reason for doing it. I imagine that having been filled with so much propaganda he would have found the whole thing doubly awful.

Was the OdR attendees in majority members of the Waffen-SS? And, have you ever met with other Rk-Traeger from other branches of the Wehrmacht? If so, who's the highest rank that you ever had the pleasure to converse or met with? Thank you!
