Hello all,
Rüdiger made an excellent suggestion today to make a reference thread dedicated to 57er related, BW tunics. As there is a specific Bundeswehr subforum where these items would normally shared, we need to specify what to show here and what not to show there. So, to help maintain consistency with our particular function here on the WAF, IMO, the tunics should fall under the following guidelines.
Generally speaking, the tunics should in some way be linked directly to 57er's. In other words even an early tunic from the 50's or early 60's that is not directly linked to 57er's would not be appropriate. That would be an item for this forum - Bundesrepublik Deutschland, 1949-Present.
The tunics that would be appropriate for our subforum would have at least one of the following characteristics:
1. Bear a 57er medal bar as originally worn by a vet.
2. Bear full size 57er medals as originally worn by a vet. (Now, that would be rare!)
3. Be a tunic of a high rank (Oberst or higher preferably) made before 1965 as these tunics would likely have been worn by a WWII veteran.
4. Have some direct link ie. be attributed, named or have some direct provenance to a WWII vet who went on to serve in the Bundeswehr.
5. Be a period photograph of a tunic that meets one of the above.
6. A 1965 or earlier made tunic converted (bars and/or medals added) to complete a veteran display.
This thread will be pinned in our Links to Comparison and Reference Threads section for easy reference.
All that being said, bring on your prize tunics gents! This oughta be good!
