          Nice Nigel!

I "oohed" and "aahed" like I was watching fireworks when I saw your new prize! That's a Halbetui case too? Nice burnishing too. You've got me gushing.

              Hey Nigel,

Am I right or wrong on the case? I'm still learning a LOT. Case ID is probably my weakest point. This might make a good thread! Case ID's. What do you think?

                  Hello

Nice KVK Nigel. However, the case is not in the halbetui style. The halbetui cases are distinguished by having no front button or catch and no rear metal hinge. Instead the top of the case is a reasonably close fit to the raised portion of the base, and uses the inner lining and outer case covering to act as a hinge. Halbetui cases were also used late in the war as well for the very early 57 pieces.

                  Regards
                  David

Here is a halbetui case. There are no front buttons or catches used on this style of case. Note also the raised lip running around the base. This allows the top section to close quite tightly onto the base.

Rear view of halbetui case. Note that there is no metal hinge. This one relies on the inner fabric lining to hold the base and top sections together.

I'd second David's comments on the KVK and case. Nice piece!
