    Civil War Era Images

I know there must be some great CW era images in collections out there, if you care to post.

I was going to subtitle this thread "Are there beautiful women in CW pics?" like this one in the Photos and Paper Items forum http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ad.php?t=67101 but beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

I happen to have more images of civilians, than military, but please post your soldier images too.

First up - a sixth plate ambrotype in a leatherette case ("leatherette" is pressed paper over the wooden case frame; cheaper than real leather of course). Perhaps an ancestor of Kirsten Dunst? Probably dates to around 1855.

CDV (carte de visite) of a US soldier with a P1853 British "Enfield" rifle-musket. The CDV appears to have been made from a tintype; the original image is probably 1862-63.

Ninth plate tintype in a leatherette case. Written in pencil on the inside of the case is "Aged 20 years when this was taken" and pressed into the mat is "Mary Hawk."

Ninth plate daguerreotype in a thermoplastic "Union" case, with a label of the Littlefield, Parsons & Co. According to the dealer, this came from the effects of a Capt. S.L. Ryan, 73rd U.S. Colored Troops.

Ninth plate tintype with a U.S. tax revenue stamp on the back (tax revenue stamps were required on images sold between Aug 1864 - Sep 1866). This isn't necessarily a soldier, though the buttons are tinted gold, but he has a cool pipe! The image has been cut as if to remove someone else who was on the original plate! The backdrop looks very plain, and this may have been taken in a tent in a field location.

                      Very nice, keep them coming!

Steve - is the unit known for that image?

Here is a CDV of a very young soldier with a hat.

                              Hi,

The lady in image 6 is quite striking isn't she?
