    US Parka

Was the army parka in the Korean war the same as in WWII?
I'm thinking of the one with removable hood.
Is there any dealers that sell these?

Well the M-1951 fishtails came out during Korea; I think the M-1948's were what existed before that. There was a different parka for WWII.

Those fishtails that have the detachable hood are the later M-1965 parkas. They're very common but they aren't correct for the Korean War.

Id wait for a better deal, and make sure you get one with real wolf trim, as its also found in fake fur. The wolf hair doesnt freeze, then all you need is some trigger finger snot wipe gloves to go with it, and some muck lucks, or some sub zero mickey mouse boots. . Ive bought minty examples for 45. or less at times. That coats fur sucks in condition. Wait till you see a nice coat with all the fur intact, not worn so much , and you'll understand .That coat has the button in liner. i used to have a dozen extra liners at one time , but i think i got rid of em all, but make sure the liner is intact before buying it for 45.

Clarification - the M51 has a hood liner that buttons into the shell; the M65 only has the hood liner for a hood.

This was still issued to us in the 1980s. There are several different types of liners in different fabrics. The early ones have a white terry-cloth like appearence and the latter ones were a synthetic quilted fabric in green. When the liners and shells got wet they froze and were worthless. The trim all freezes when wet as well. Most of it was Coyote. I never saw or heard of wolf fur? I still have one I wore which is dated I think 1953 or 54. The earlier shells were IMO better quality. The whole set was patterned after the Waffen SS anorak pants and jacket.

                  Here is a parka that is a M-51 .
This has the button in white fleece liner and the wolf lined button in hood liner.
This is in a heavy weight cotton similar to the M-48 parka ans has shoulder straps .

The M-51 also came in a nylon blend.

I would stick with e-pay. You can find one that may not be listed properly, or that is a low price with "buy it now", etc. I found a mint, unissued M-51 (without liner) for $30.00.

I believe i found a minty cover for a coat like this some time back, but it might be another coat also that one is the shiznick , just expensive, but they get that when they are that minty, and period marked (50-53)as that one is. No liner or fur insert on the coat i found . And yes they used real wolf fur for them for the real deal versions , because of the freezing issue, others will verify it is true. You can always tell by the ticking on the fur if its real wolf. SAD again, but true, as the other furs will freeze, where the wolf fur will resist better than ANY other fur. Hope you get one you like.(patience is a virtue)
