Thanks, Guy. There are several soldiers named Yamada that were on Attu. Hard to narrow it down unless the unit description gives a clue. I’m unsure how to proceed since I don’t read Japanese or have access to their archives.

We couldn’t find anyone named Yamaga on the list so I’m glad the translation of the name is verified!

I went back to ensure I read the name correctly. I'm 99.99% certain it is Yamada based on the angular form of the last katakana ダ compared to ガ. See below:
ヤマダ Yamada
ヤマガ Yamaga

So I'm going with Yamada. How many men named Yamada are in the ATTU memorial book?
