These things came back from a vet who fought in the Solomons of course its hearsay so I would like to know if the Japanese characters could pinpoint the helmet to Guadalcanal or Bougainville . Its a small helmet with what looks like grey dots to the top area ? the ammo is all dated 1942 and I should imagine its Garrand ammo all inert the bullets have been placed on fired rounds. Japanese have FOUR ways to write:
kanji 漢字
hiragana ひらがな
katakana カタカナ
romaji "rome letters" (the Jesuits were from Rome; ergo "roma-ji")
Here's an example using the same word "Yamamoto" :
Kanji: 山本
Hiragana: やまもと
Katakana: ヤマモト
Romaji: Yamamoto
Katakana is an angular modification of kanji; hiragana is a fluid modification of kanji.
For example, the hiragana "wa" わ is a modification of 和 "wa/peace". Here's a nice chart that shows from whence come hiragana:
