here is another shot of another group of guys with the same flag as a prop.

Notice the flag is held a varity of ways, no one seems to know what side is up.
I am not sure I would either

Thanks for posting some interesting captured Japanese flag photos. The flag having the three circles with a cog-wheel looks like maybe some kind of a Tokyo Factory/Arsenal Engineering detachment flag? If you get the konji lettering translated do let me know what it turns out to be? Also always interested in seeing other captured flag photos, especially of flags with fringed edges - see example of the type of flag of collecting interest to me, as shown below.

dan h,

The large dark kanji characters, one in each corner of the signed flag, translate to "External [Good] Fortunes of War" which is a common slogan found on a majority of the signed flags that I see.

As you noted, the signed flag is being held upside down or side ways in the photos.

The blue colored flag with the fringes on the sides has katakana that translate to "Tinian." (I can not make out the rest of the kanji, but suspect it's for an association of some type.)

Hope this helps and thanks for sharing the photos with us on the forum.

Eric

Hi Dan,

very nice photos .
Is it possible to get a copy of each?
If yes, what would be the price with shipping to germany.
Bye
Michael
