Was hoping to get some translation help and what the wooden items might be?

Dog tag 1301 is the 4th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Division. In 1942 it was part of the Aoba Detachment for the invasion of Java and Guadalcanal. Seems probable the tag was acquired on Guadalcanal.

Cancelled tag number 10629 was for the 2nd Field Freight Depot, 2nd Area Army.

As for the tag Guy properly translated as the "3rd Independent Mountain Artillery" Regiment (assuming it's 'Regt' not 'Battalion'). That unit was on Saipan as part of the 31st Army. I believe this kanji may be the top one in the center column 联

Great tags!!!!! And with any history on the Vet that brought them you could almost trace it to a couple of battle sites it may have come from.

Thanks guys. Vet is Arthur F. Mcmillan. Was in April 1942-Oct 1944. There was a photo he had of a Tarawa graveyard that said "this happened when I wasn't there"

No, sorry Guy. I would happily have given it up if I had it. The second kanji sort of feels like 長, but I doubt it's that given the top right side strokes. Also no idea if it's an obscure reference by the tag's original owner or a common term writ different. Oh the joy.
