Help with translation on sword scabbard

    Hello all,

I have a vintage Wakizashi mounted in shirasaya. The characters appear to have been written at different times. I would be grateful if someone could translate the characters on the wooden scabbard.

I can’t read it either — can you post an image of the tang? Sayagaki usually record attributes of the sword: maker (or attribution), date, length, etc. So comparing the tang could be instructive.

I’m on an iPhone now and cannot do further research. Perhaps this can be a jumping-off point for our other sword aficionados?

Further to my last: I don’t see any mention of 兼陳 on the saya writing.
