Kinugasa (衣笠 重巡洋艦 Kinugasa jūjun'yōkan) was the second vessel in the two-vessel Aoba class of heavy cruisers in the Imperial Japanese Navy. The ship was named after Mount Kinugasa, located in Yokosuka, Kanagawa, Japan.

Of course, Kinugasa (衣笠) is also a Japanese surname.

Shell is marked with diamond and a S in the back inside - pic in #3 (nobody sees this? - owner please confirm - I could be tricking myself), liner is leather, NO ink stamp behind front pad, writing in white paint in the top (although classically numbers for IJN helmets). All typically point to navy. I think the front emblem is postwar/souvenir stuff. If I owned the helmet and i really had to know for sure I'd gently bend back tabs, removes the emblem and see if there is a ghost of a star or an anchor over the paint. Then if it was an anchor -I'd pursue an anchor and vice versa for a star. or just enjoy it as it is! :-)

A diamond with the S in it is seen on Army and Navy helmets, as are various other marks.

Army liners are made of leather. What do you think they should be made of?

The front pad ink stamp may be very faint.

The liner has the 3 stitches at the rear, not two for a Navy liner.

Scott has also mentioned a couple of other points which identify this as an Army liner and helmet.

Size marks are not painted on Navy helmets but they are on Army helmets.

Painted markings in the dome on Navy helmets are numbers, not names.

Where are you getting your information from?

            Regards

            Russ

Now being sold as a navy reserve helmet - what a load of bollocks.

                https://www.ebay.com/itm/WWII-JAPANE...YAAOSwDApafK6D

MY JAPANESE FREIND DESCRIBES THIS HELMET AS" NAVY RESERVE " NAMED "E.KASHI SMALL SIZE:" COMPLETE WITH GOOD LINER AND CHIN STRAP. AS IS AS PER PHOTOS. NO RESERVE
