    Japanese officers sword..Good??

    Hello Japanese sword guru's! Please help a German dagger guy so I wont get burned! Always admired these blades but I also know there are some great repos out there these days. What are your opinions on this sword being offered to me? THANKS! Kevin.

              Thanks for your opinion Death-Ace! Some of these pics wont upload, the scabbard looks more brown and very shiney like it is clear coated or lacquered? Is that common? If you could PM me your email I would shoot them to you..(Your PM box is full) Best, Kevin.

                      It appears to be an authentic IJA Officer sword in Type 98 mounts. The fittings are of mid grade quality and some appear to be missing. Based upon what I see so far I'd suggest a value of around 750 USD.

                          No doubt this sword is original WWII issue. I am only second guessing Stu but my take is that he is referring to the very severe shrinkage of the handle wrapping (including both to the ito lacing and the underlying sharkskin) as well as the missing sharkskin and damage to the sharkskin (i.e. missing/broken) on the handle. This sword appears to have spent the last 70 years in the company of a very heavy smoker as all the fiittings appear to be heavily smoke damaged.
