I won't go any further on this as I am not an aviation fan, but as you seem to find it interesting to hear about the British influence on Japanese naval aviation, here is something you can look deeper into if you like. The group invited to Japan was called BAM (British Aviation Mission) and was led by a Colonel Sempill. There are several hundred pages of his letters, reports and memos in the archives, but here are two samples. The first one sent after his departure from Japan, which includes his full title. The second one is his memo on the subject of parachutes to show what sort of information exchange took place back then.

It appears that Sempill went a bit overboard in assisting with Japanese Naval Aviation to the extent of being accused a a spy for Japan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willia...h_Lord_Sempill

Fascinating stuff. I love the convoluted stories you get into when researching historical subjects. The 1919 AVRO504 visit to Rabaul I mention below lead me to getting into 'Top Secret' stamped Australian Naval records, they tried to hid the visit as it was a fiasco!

Any way thanks for your definitive answers to many of my questions, a rare thing these days.

        Regards
        Steve

For a convoluted story I put together (the AVRO504 bit was real research) see -
