I would be interested in more pics from other wrapped swords.....

It's not the same as Paul's, since this cover is designed to come off easily when you want to use the sword, although if you are in a hurry you can still use the sword with it on. These have a better chance of surviving as they don't get ruined by people looking for signatures, but they are still a bit hard to find as they were often discarded to show of the sword better on display.

Also see an earlier thread of mine that has a nice photo of some medical officers, one of whom had a leather strap wrapped over the handle.

I forgot what they're called -- "ame-fukuro" or something (rain bags). You see them in block prints sometimes, but more often in period movies, used by traveling samurai.

An "art" sword in such a fitting is double good to me!

I would try and find an way to get inside though without any damage.
