It's not the same as Paul's, since this cover is designed to come off easily when you want to use the sword, although if you are in a hurry you can still use the sword with it on. These have a better chance of surviving as they don't get ruined by people looking for signatures, but they are still a bit hard to find as they were often discarded to show of the sword better on display.
Also see an earlier thread of mine that has a nice photo of some medical officers, one of whom had a leather strap wrapped over the handle.
