Japanese Surgical Kit. Translation Help ?

    Hi
I wonder if anyone might be able to help me with the translation of the characters in this surgical Kit that I recently picked up ?
I was told that it was a WWII Japanese Field Surgical Kit.
I would be interested if anyone knows anything about these ?
It's complete and still packed in grease. It has two small compartments in the base which contain sewing needles and stitching thread still in the brown oil paper.
I wondered if the leather pad in the lid was perhaps a strop for sharpening the blades.
Any information on this item would be of great help.

    Hi Robbo,

That's a nice Japanese surgical kit (looks like 40's).

    Is your case magnetic?

Here are the translations: (From left to right)

品目及順序表 (Hin Moku Oyobi Jun Jyo Hiyou) - Items order lists

    円刃刀 二 (En Jin Tou Ni) - Scalpel (round-edged ) x2

尖刃刀 二 (Sén Jin Tou Ni) - Scalpel (sharp-pointed) x2

    鉤 一 (Kagi Ichi) - Hook x1

有鉤摂子 一 (Yuu Kou Sétshi Ichi) - Hook Tweezers x1

    摂子 一 (Sétshi Ichi) - Tweezers x1

縫會針大中小各三 (Nui Kai Bari Dai Chyuu Shou Kaku San) - Stitch needles large, medium, small x3 each.

コッヘル鉗子 四 (Kohhéru Kanshi Yon) - Kocher forceps x4

ペアン鉗子兼持針器 二 (Péan Kanshi Ken Ji Shin Ki Ni) - Pean forceps with needle holder x2

消息子 一 (Shou Soku Shi Ichi) - Probe x1

直鋏 一 (Jika Basami Ichi) - Straight scissors x1

反鋏 一 (Tan Basami Ichi) - Curve scissors x1

カテーテル 一 (Katé téru Ichi) - catheter x1

革砥 一 (Kawa Tō Ichi) - Leather Grinder x1 (Blade sharpener) This answered one of your questions.

溝消息子 一 (Mizo Shou Soku Shi Ichi) - Probe Director x1

    Hope they help.

    Best regards,
    Taka

              Hi Taka
Yes, I'm pretty sure it's a brushed aluminum case which has a thin lacquer coating.
Would you know if it's at all possible to date ? I have attached a few more photos showing the case.
              Kind Regards

                Hi Robbo,

It's very hard to tell from the case since it doesn't have any markings.

However maybe there is a maker mark on the surgical gear or the leather pouch.

The other thing is that field doctors or medics used non military issued medical gears.

The kit might be not military issued but it might be manufactured at that era.

Still a very interesting piece of history.

                Best regards,
                Taka

                  Hello Taka
Thank you for your opinion. It's greatly appreciated. Unfortunately there are no markings whatsoever. Not even on the instruments themselves.
However, it definitely has the appearance of being of the 1940's era
                  Kind Regards

                          Hey guys,

Here is a pic of a Japanese Army Medic/Surgeons Kit that shows its complete contents. You can see the same kit as yours in the upper right corner showing it was used by the military. Hope this helps.

                          David.
