    NCO Shin Gunto Sword Help

I was thinking of purchasing this sword to display with my screen-worn "Windtalkers" uniform but decided to wait and get input first and become a little more knowledgeable before buying one. In the meantime, I would like to get opinions about this one.

    This was the description:

Pre-1945 Japanese Type-95 NCO shin gunto Kokura Tokyo marked fuchi, number 58327, with matching olive green saya, aluminum tsuka, bronze tsuba.

Even though the description says "Pre-1945" is it safe to consider this a WWII era sword?

Chinese fake, serial numbers should n' t be mark that way (both blade and saya).

Font style are differenet as well.

Strange green on saya. (Chinese made fake Japanese bayonet scabbard have the same lime green colour)

            Best regards,

            Taka

A classic issue is the distance from bohi end to habaki and bohi end to the point. Bohi is to short.
Also the habaki is wrong , there schould be no notch on the nco habaki ,only on the first copper type.

This handle appears "silver", is that a giveaway also or were some produced like that?

Thank you for the input everyone. It sold for $325.00 (which I thought was a little low for this kind of item). Money well saved!!

                    Gunto,

Is there any publication or book that discusses these swords that you would recommend? I'm suddenly interested in learning more about these!

I agree that Dawson's Cyclopedia is the best book out there.

Those are some of mine and if you compare them to the reproduction piece you will see some of the differences mentioned.
