tang mark?

hi lads, can anyone tell me about this mark on the tang its not like a seki stamp
and it's on both sides of the tang? thanks to all. brenig.

Maybe dai or tai stamp.

When I squint my eyes hard enough ... it looks like 名
that is used to write "Nagoya" 名古屋

I wonder if that is correct?

I believe the smith name is Hiromitsu. Still working on the stamp.

That stamp does indeed look like the Nagoya Arsenal inspection stamp although my eyes are not what they once were so I can't be sure. I doubt it would be found on gendaito.

Here is a photo of one on an NCO sword. For those not familiar with the stamp it's the middle one of the three. The others being Gifu to the left and Kokura to the right.

What do you guys think? A match?

Yes, Hiromitsu 廣光 (Broad Light). Today 廣 is simplified to 広.

Yeah, I think so. I rotated the original image 360º and couldn't "force" a Seki 関 or Showa 昭 stamp into the same "footprint."

[Mitsubautsugi]

According to R. Fuller and R. Gregory (Swordsmiths of Japan from 1926 to 1945) it is "very small unidentified stamp", fairly common.

However, I have met also with the interpretation that it is a Nagoya Arsenal stamp (http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/viewt...&sd=a&start=30).
