Nick,
Thanks for the information and photos. One I have not seen before. You mentioned that in Japan the phone I posted is referred as an army phone? is there a way you tell me model No. or a better photo of the data plaque? Watching the SNLF movie that was posted earlier, You can clearly see them using a field phone simliar to the one I posted, not the same one but close. Its not like the one you posted so is there another type they would have been used? Thanks again for all your assistance here, its greatly appreciated.
Regards, David.

The army phone only says Special portable Telephone, which is its official designation. I will show you photos including the plate. If you mean the movie of the NFL in Shanghai that was posted here, that movie was not made by the navy and the only real items that the producers requested for loan from the navy were helmets and rifles. I know, because I found the navy documents on the loan in the archives when researching steel helmets. Like Hollywood movies, they were all professional actors using props, so you can't draw conclusions from that.

I just went back and checked the NLF film and noticed it was a different movie. The one I referred to was from Daito films released in 1938, and the one on Youtube was from Toho the year later. The Navy was requested to loan out 30 Helmets and T38 Rifles for the former. The Toho movie did get a lot more support from the navy, but it was still a commercial movie with professional actors, so my caution applies nonetheless.

Thanks Nick for clearing things up for me. I wonder if the thought of this phone being used for SNLF came from the phones designation as "special portable phone". I agree with you on caution with the movie. You are a true asset to this forum. Thank you again for taking the time to respond.
Regards, David.
