It would probably be worth spending $40.00 or so on ebay to get an original star with as close to as matching patina as possible. Just be sure to disclose it if you decide to sell it, but I have no doubt you would.

One other thing, make sure you get the name of the vet. If possible get the family member to write a small note with the name, even if its nothing more than him knowing it was brought back and thats all. If you intend to sell this, you won't regret doing that.

Nice helmet but I noticed that the two rear sections of the liner are flipped outwards instead of folded in. I don't know if they (soldiers) would have worn them that way. I would leave it alone as the split pins might break off if removed.
