A really nice example of a Gunto sword. The circled area in the picture looks like a fingerprint that needs to be wiped off.

Thanks Russ and Don.Since posting my pictures,I have come across a few websites containing information on samurai swords.A bit overwhelming I must admit.I was able to sort through the myriad of information and found a couple of characteristics to look for. While this thread is relatively fresh, I thought I would post more pictures of the sword. They are photos of areas that I never thought of taking.First ones are of the tsuba, habaki, fuchi, and the seppa all have matching numbers (90).The second set of photos are of the hada. Unless I am mistaken. and it does not exist on this sword. So please feel free to comment,if there is any thing to add. One more thing I have spent some time at this website http://home.earthlink.net/~steinrl/glossary.htm Sappears to be an ok place to start???Thanks for you time and help, Gerald.

id post blade pix only, as its a nihonto site not military per se, here
http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/index.php
lots of good blokes there, i see hada, your blade is in war time polish and very bright, youd be in wonder with a art polish. Very nice find.

This Gunto on ebay went for $1725. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Unless there was something special about it, I'm no expert, I'd would say that Gerald's sword is a lot nicer than that one.
