unknown item found in the effects of a japanese

I have owned a charm exactly like this. It was included in a grouping. It was captured by a 2nd div guy on Saipan.

The Japanese unit these came from could have been raised from the same area in Japan then sent to Saipan. They are probably from their local shrine. Could also be just a coincidence. My grouping was to a member of the 8th Marines.
