    Tojo Affidavit

I am researching a typescript copy of Hideki Tojo's affidavit, dated December 19, 1947, and prepared for the war crimes tribunal. It is 245 typed pages on 8" x 13" paper with two binding holes punched at the top. It is unquestionably from the period but I'm trying to ascertain how rare it is, if at all, and a reasonable price estimate. There is no docketing information on this copy nor are there any endorsements present. I would assume that this is just one of many copies distributed to the various judges, interpretors, lawyers, and perhaps even the press. Anyone have any ideas about value or scarcity? Does anyone have (or had) a similar copy?

Thanks for any help in advance.

I don't remember hearing about this document over the years. Couldn't help on a value but perhaps I could find out if someone remembers a document like that. I'm sure there were many documents. I know Tojo had many visitors at various times from the US Government. My Dad was a Lt. with the 555th Military Police Battaliion and was assigned to Sugamo Prison in 1946-47. As officer of the day on a rotational basis during this time, he knew many of the people there serving in various capacities including those involved directly with the trial. He also interacted with Tojo regularly after his suicide recovery until early 47 and had knowledge of everyone who had access to all prisoners there. I will ask him. After he left the prison, I believe he has some other friends who worked there during this time through the completion of Tojos trial and execution. Perhaps they have some recollection of this but it might be a small needle in the haystack.
