I have one of these "special purpose" modified bayonets. The work is high quality & I feel it was arsenal done. I have seen at least/handled quite a few of these & the quality of the modifications is consistant.I don't know if Nick, pending period photos, is correct about it being worn on the leg. I've always felt it was worn on a waist belt. I find it extremely interesting that it resemble a German youth knife. One of my pet theories was that these were modified for the German instructors or at the least modified to German specs.
