    Yes, was just wondering how this letter wound up as a vet bring back, if it was not written nor received by a Japanese soldier. Probably a random pick-up in Okinawa.

      The vet was a Navy SeaBee and was the postal clerk for his unit. I am sure most of the stuff he bought back was either given to him by the Marines or he got hold of it by being close to the mail. Or the letter may have been just picked up along with other items. Even the good luck charm may not have been sent with the letter. Unfortunatly, he never discussed any thing with his only child, and passed away very unexpectedly. We have only speculation and have been very mistaken so far. I don't think he saw any action, but was in New Guinea befor Okinawa.
