Japanese militaria collectors are BORING !!

    Okay guys...

I had to come out an say it.

Folks that tend to collect Japanese stuff... just aren't as "interesting" as those guys who collect German/Nazi items.

Take the helmet below... Another Japanese Navy paratrooper.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Imperial-Japanes...QQcmdZViewItem

No discussions, complaints, comments of any kind... but... we all know it's up on E-Bay. Nobody wants to tip their hand... and just pretend it's not there!

But... when it comes to German items... there are plenty of discussions on the unique pieces when they pop up.

I find Japanese swords locally from time to time. But... none of the Japanese sword collectors ever tell me the truth about a sword.

It's always: "It's a common war time sword made of captured Chinese rail road steel" and "not worth much, maybe a few hundred dollars."

These are the same folks that don't place price tags on their items at shows!!

I give it to a friend to sell for me... and it's worth a $1000, and over 150 years old?

What's the big mystery with you guys??

Sure... knowledge is power... but... heck... it's like pulling teeth sometimes to get an honest answer. You have these clicks/circles that you follow.

On the Japanese navy para helmet... I can see under the sellers question and answer section that Jareth already got under the seller's skin... and must have called the helmet a "fake." LOL

I don't like the badge, or chin straps... Anything else I am missing? The paint bothers me too.

    Thanks...

I am joking to an extent... but... there is a little bit of truth in every joke.

I agree, we tend not to whine as much as nazi collectors
How in the heck did I miss this link??

I looked for any comments on this helmet... and up and down the board.... and made an idiot of myself

Yes... Nazi collectors sure tend to whine...

I think I am more middle of the road... I hope...

This helmet is bad period - no discussion needed. Did you get the point! So why did you bid $1,511.00 on it? You should know! You already have one= why don't you really look at it and compare. So you wouldn't be bored I gave it to you bluntly

            LOL

            Well....

I was the high bidder for a little while... and again... needed some reassurance

I didn't look at my navy paratrooper for about 6 months.... to compare...

I tend to bid first, look at the photos next, and EVENTUALLY read the description later..

I just don't understand why you would post something like this? If this board is so boring why look at it or post on it? If you took the time to look I don't know how you missed the thread on the naval para. I have made several good friends on this board who have helped me more then I can put down in this post. Swords are a hard business to learn. If you are mad about missing some local finds it may be past time to buy one of the many books about them. I really don't understand the thinking behind a post like this? Especially if you are wanting more advice on things you want to buy.

To start with when there is an item worth talking about this forum hops like a buncha women gossiping at a quilt sewing party but, unlike German items there are much less Japanese items availible, and nothing close to the fakes that polute the German collecting field and have basically ruined it. This forum is the best I have seen for helping a person learn by asking questions and most any of these guys would help you on the phone or by email Japanese collectors are a different breed than German collectors I'll leave it at that.

I normally do not chime in on posts similar to this one; however, I feel compelled to say that I would not call these guys boring. Polite, yes........boring no! I am next door to totally ignorant about Japanese militaria, even though I picked it up when I came across it when I visited vets many years ago. I have been recently trying to identify the stuff for my family to have an idea of what they will have to deal with in the case of my demise. I have not asked a question......some of them quite stupid in my mind......that I have had go unanswered, and nobody has pointed out my apparent stupidity. All have been very polite, and forthcoming with the answers. Definitely not boring. I wish such a source had been available when I was still an active collector.

I'm repeating myself again BUT I do not comment on current/on going auctions UNLESS the item is a blatant fake! If it's an original then I respect the potential buyers whether they're active early bidders or last minute snipers. A good item doesn't need free advertising nor does the seller need help. Legit items sell themselves! I ALWAYS resond to private emails or PMs regarding auction items.
