The fist with arrows is a private company (cant remember off hand the name) that made aluminum utensils. It is unrelated to the Osaka Arsenal.

Folks thanks for the responses. I noted some variations in the sewing patterns and shape of the NLF/Navy liner fingers/pads in addition to the different materials. Does anyone have any views on the number of liner variations?

It seems that most navy helmets have cowhide once in awhile you'll see pigskin or a variation cloth liner. I'm not detecting any differences in that liner with shape of the finger or stitching methods.

            WW2 Japanese combat helmet

            Hello,
I would like to get some opinions regarding this Type 90 helmet. I believe it is the Naval Landing type. The condition is fairly solid with a few minor flaws in the lining. The color is a mud brown, and the insignia differs a bit from the one that I see depicted in the previous thread. Thanks in advance for your help.

It's an earlier model that has a liner that has shrunk or been replaced with a small army liner. They have rigged the liner together in the rear it has a cowhide band and pigskin pads.

Mike, the helmet shell is army. ONLY the army used painted size marks on the rear interior. Can't say 100% if insignia is real or repro & if liner is army or navy. Sorry for the bad news.

The helmet posted by Mike here is an Army issue helmet, as is the liner which does not fit the helmet. (the Navy liners only have 2 stitch holes in the rear as opposed to the Army 3 holes which are apparent here). I dont know if the Navy badge is good or not, but it appears that this particular helmet has some issues.

If the helmet was legit it would have been snatched up off the bay. I would just wait and a nice one will come around.

I emailed the seller on Ebay that it was an Army shell with added Naval device, but no answer (surprise, surprise!!)

The seller is an honest guy. I just do not think he knows much about Japanese items. He does Civil War & early American mostly. He name is Dale Anderson. He always has high quality CW items on his site. I think he is going to retire. He is the one selling the house on the gettysburg battlefield which he does own.

Re the liner and stitching, I will send you some pics of different helmets and explain what I mean. Some seem slightly larger in the 3 pads than others and some have stitches running diagonally across them, Easier to see when I send pics.
