    NLF Helmet Cover info

Were the NLF covers marked like the army versions?

    #2
Yes. First pattern covers (yellow felt anchor on wool oval) can be found with ink stampings. Ink stamps are not the same markings or format as army dual ink stamps. Eric & I are uncertain if these stamps are found only on early 1st pattern examples or are just a different maufacturers variant. I've never seen a second (woven anchor) pattern cover with marks.

Here is a close-up of the stamping...

Note the Navy procurement stamping is different than an Army procurement stamping.

Also, not all first pattern Navy helmet covers were marked, and like Jareth mentioned, I too have yet to see a second pattern Navy helmet cover that was marked.

That cover in terrible condition wasn't worth $600.! I guess that makes for one very expensive pocket knife!

                  NLF Helmet Cover

Hey, don't forget the patch too! Looks like Dan King bid nearly $700.00 for it and Japnutt bid almost $1400.00. My guess is there will be a bunch of these on the market before Christmas now as folks will be looking to cash out. I need Types 1 and 2 for my collection. If anyone sees one pop-up, please let me know as I have not seen anything available for awhile and $600.00 seems like a reasonable price. Mike

Because of the aggressive bidding that took place on the cover that was just on eBay, this means that all the other covers out there, that are in better condition, just went up in value.

Mike, both pattern covers are scarce especially in exc. cond. That's probally why it went high. Being on ebay helped! I'm afraid to tell you what I'd pay for an exc. 1st pattern cover! I lucked into a non upgradible 2nd pattern years ago.

Oh heck Jareth, go ahead and tell me!! I guess with the unavailability of these helmet covers the price ceiling is anybody's guess. I would sure love to find one of each, however, along with a helmet net. Mike

You're right, now that's a mannequin! My wife does dress up, but it's more like a teacher, or a nurse, etc.! I could never openly take pictures of her, however!!! If I did, I would have to submit them with my other "Booty photos."Mike
