I'm hoping some members can shed some light on these swords for me. I know a little but not much. Both of these swords came from the daughter of a WWII US vet who served in the Phillippines in 44 and 45. They have been untouched in storage since the end of the war. Blades had some old grease on them which I cleaned off with WD-40and and soft cotton cloth. They can still use a little cleaning. I had a very hard time getting the pegs and handles off but do see one is signed. It was clear to me pegs have not been removed since WWII.
Large sword has a 25" cutting edge and I believe is an army officers katana? When you look down the flat you can see it is wavy and clearly hand forged. It is signed and I'm hoping somebody can help with translation and age.
Small sword has a 21" cutting edge and I believe some call a pilot/tanker sword. It is unsigned and I believe it may have been cut down?? I think the blade may be very old. How old? I don't know.
Hoping the experts can shed some light, please dont use too many Japanese words, I'm really not familiar with much of the termanology. Value range??
Thanks in advance, Cliff
