    Okay .... that panel is easier to read. I have to interpolate two kanji which I'll highlight in magenta.

    第二一部隊小野寺
    No. 21st Unit Onodera Group

    I really cannot make out that last kanji .... but "group" makes sense. It's a guess and I reserve the right to be wrong!
    In this case, I think the Japanese use of tai equates to how "element" is used in the US Army when not wanting to give away the size of the group; it can be anything from a fire team to battalion, etc. "Lieutenant, I want you to move your element to this grid and lay down a base of fire." The lieutenant is leading a company (minus).

                Nah, first you need to know which unit Onodera led ... then you'd need to be a direct Fujiwara family member (currently in Japan and send in your family register from city hall) to petition the government for a soldier's records. Not at all like researching a landser in a German unit!

                Cheers,

                    It's a nightmare. I tried to get my father-in-law's records and was given a list of impossible things to do before hand. The family register needs to be no older than 30 days (maybe it was three months) ... then all the other stuff. It is doable if you are fluent in Japanese .... or if your Japanese wife is interested in going through the trouble ("Why do you need a copy of my father's service records? You already talked to him when he was alive").

                    Oh well .....

                      I didn’t see any explanation for the Jewish star on the front.

                            Brigade or group headquarters, however, are indicated by six-pointed stars
                            The appropriate basic sign may be added to indicate the arm. For example:
                            , area army headquarters;
                            , division headquarters;
                            cavalry brigade headquarters
