This was a good month of finding interesting items for me. This ruined but still very interesting TWM is one the best catches for me. I love it all round even with its' missing parts (the date and the gazi plates) and probably pressed on and cracked enamel.

Hope you enjoy it even when compared to a pristine example.

Really great pieces, I like this gallipoli stars really much. Do you know how many makers of this stars exist and how many variants?

And another question from my side

I love cased medals in nice cases ( like EK 1 etc ). What about original cases for this galliopoli stars?

Hello Valentino, thank you for your compliments on my collection. In answer to your query about the makers, Demir Erman states that 10 different makers produced variants this medal and also the Turkish mint Darphane produced the original ones.

I think this is still open to new discoveries (as you can see I have more variants in my collection than the list). In his book Demir Erman gives a list of German and Austrian makers as:

                    1. Alfred Werner&Sohne (AWS) Berlin
                    2. BB&CO. (Most common yet unknown maker)
                    3. Boerger and Co. (BECO) Berlin
                    4. Bruder Schneider, Wien
                    5. Friedrich Sedlatzek, Berlin (This is open to debate whether he produced or just named the pieces from other makers)
                    6. Godet, Berlin
                    7. J.H. Werner, Berlin
                    8. J.O.H. Wagner&Sohn, Berlin
                    9. P. Meybauer, Berlin
                    10. Steinhauer&Lück, Lüdenscheid

You can find most of these makers in my collection and I think some of them produced boxes for their own high end medals such as Godet. I have to remind that none of these foreign made medals were official but the simple looking Turkish made one was. Still I am glad that German and Austrian jewelers produced their own versions of the Turkish War Medal.

I have attached an example for the period made TWM box which was auctioned some time ago that may interest you.

                    Hope this answer helps.

Great collection. To me, the TWM must be one of the best looking medals out there.
Could you post pics of the front and rear turkish made painted stars?
would the painted stars have vertical or horizontal pins?

                        Regards,
                        DC.

                          Hello Damien

                          Thank you for your compliments.

Yes the Turkish made ones have both vertical pins and I will make photos tomorrow.
