Anybody else collect ROC militaria?
I just got these in, some hats and a backpack, M1945 copy.
Here is a little picture timeline of the army service hats...
Used from the mid 1930s to late 1940s. Reproduction..
This variant was used from the mid 1950s to 1960s or 70s, I am not positive though. This one is dated 1957. The badge is made out of copper and I have generally classfied these badges made out of copper that were being made up to 1949, but it seems to not be the case. It has a brass nut in the shape of a disc. There is another early variant, probably post 1949 made until mid 1950s without a chinstrap. Notice this hat mimics the old ski caps, but does not actually fold down. Made out of HBT.
This was used right after the last version up till early 1990s. I got this one when a seller listed this on eBay as a WWII Flying Tiger cap. I told him it is dated 1987 and asked how this was found in a veteran's trunk, seller never really gave a solid answer, but sold it to me for cheap. This is has a few reminants of the previous design. Insignia is made out of aluminum disc with plastic sun. Later versions have the embroidered sun, just like the next hat. There are variations, such as one with dark green color. Some have a different insignia attached. A few of the newer issued has the officer rank embroidered on the front. There is a Marine version, just with logo embroidered. Unissued. Made out of HBT.
Current issue. I believe the earlier ones had the year of manufacture, but the recent ones do not. Most current issued uniform items do not have the year printed on them anymore. Undated, but I bought this in Taiwan in 2007.
This is a winter cap. It is very similar to the ones used in WWII and 1946-49 Civil War period. The only difference is the color and material. Has the early type copper insignia, with plastic nut. No date, seller estimates 60's-70s and probably for armor crew use. Made out of HBT.
So far these are the only hats I have seen sold in Taiwan and period pictures. There may be more types that I have not seen yet.
Oh and the flag, I am not sure what period it is dated, I think WWII to 1960s, probably flown in the US not on the mainland or Taiwan. It has "China" and "3x5" stamped on the edge part and I think zinc holes where the string/rope is tied to the flag. The 3:5 ratio is usually outside of China/Taiwan as they have the flag at a 2:3 ratio. Made out of cotton with individual sun and rays sewed on.
I will post more items later and more if anybody is interested...
