    Can anybody here read Japanese??

    Hello,

    I was wondering if anyone here could tell me what is written on this flag. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can email a better image to anyone who could help.

    Regards,
    Jason

        warnej,

        I already reply to your pm.<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_311841", true); </SCRIPT>

        ken

        Read Vertically not horizontally except the first line 1).
        1) First line: Long lasting Warfare
        2) Right below the sun: General Tojo 东條机 (his original autograph??).
        3) next to it: be fierce and valor in fighting
        4) left: faithful in serving the country
        5) 1944

        Probably Akira will have better answer than I do.

          The year is 1940 (Showa 15) rather than 1944.

          I am sorry but this cannot be General Tojo's autograph. The pronunciation is the same but the last character is represented with a different kanji. Use of this character (literally "desk") for "ki" reminds me more of chinese origin rather than authentic japanese origin. Of course, someone sometime had that name in Japan; I don't have any concrete evidence to call it a fake, but this is quite different from what I've seen so far.

          The top line translates to "(Wishing your) soldier's luck to last forever."

            Thanks Akira. I thought it is Showa 19 => 19 +25 =1944

              Actually you might be right. The handrighting is so bad (well maybe my brain), it may be Showa 19 = 1944 as you say...
