What are you're thoughts about this small company size unit flag or guidon?
I bought this about 8 or 9 years ago at a small antique store in Peru, Illinois for 75 bucks. Pinned to it were an assortment of things to include a couple of thin strips of red cotton material, a WWII vintage combat infantryman badge, South Vietnamese airborne wings, Army rank insignia, a U.S. 48 star shoulder patch and (of all things) a State of Tennessee shoulder type patch! I still have all that stuff. I figure the pinned on pieces had some value while the flag/guidon was a bonus if it happened to be vintage wartime use.
I had a couple of Chinese nationals at my work place look at the writing and they verified that it was Chinese writing but of an older more formal style of a type they said was no longer in general use. As they deciphered the writing, they seemed to struggle with the translation for some time before attempting to tell me what it said. They roughly translated:
On the front left: "military order is like a mountain" or " military orders must be carried out". On the right front: " hundred battles-hundred victories".
Backside left: "10,000 miles, pioneers...?" or "this group? is way out in front of the main group", backside right: "clear-listen-teaching-battle" or "soldiers should listen to how to fight in battle".
Not sure what to make of the English inscription. I know what KIA and WIA means but not sure about the HOTEL-9 meaning.
The flag itself is a cottony material with cotton ties and the letter "D" is a velvet/satiny type material. It's about 20 inches long. Does this look like something that could be legitimate wartime use captured by Americans or is it an elaborate fake? Thanks for your comments! Kim
