ARVN & NVA Unit Flags & Pole Tops ???

    Hello:
Nice to see a new forum on Vietnam militaria. I would love to see both
some ARVN and NVA Unit Flags and their pole tops. Shown below are a
couple of ARVN tops in my collection - the eagle type for regimental flags,
and the tall spear type with small US like eagle on the round disk section.

    Hello,

    thanks for the post.

Could you perhaps show an individual image or two of the ARVN tops in question?

Your original image is very busy visually.

    Hoping to see more,

    Patrick.

      Hello Patrick:
Thanks for your suggestion, unfortunately most of my ~40
year collection is now in long term bonded storage, making
showing my ARVN tops solo somewhat difficult. But I do have
on my reference library book shelf the 1971 "Basic Regulations
of Ranks, Uniforms, Military Flags, Branch Flags, Commanding
Officer Flags and Insignia of the Armed Forces of the Republic
of Viet Nam". But not sure from same which flags these tops
were used on? So further translation would be most welcome.

        Old flags

        Hello,

Here is a commemeration flag I believe they are called. I have never seen a flag pole top on a NVA flag. Perhaps they had them but it is not the kind of stuff my guys were into.

        Enjoy,
        Vince

          Hello,

Here is one side of a flag which commemerates 4 battles/wars which this Jager Regiment took place in. The photo is not the best. Please let me know if you want more photos of it. Its not of this period though?
          My best,

Here is another Hanoi Museum NVA flag example - note the thick lettering,
the font, fringe, and early wartime style applied center star. This is the
kind of flag to look for, but rarely ever found other than in a museum.

French vs. Vietnam unit flag pole top finials ???

                Hello all:
It seems that the Vietnam military unit flag pole top finials were derived from their Provincial
and Colonial French Army predecessors - see below.

True, the very first models had also a number for the unit, french way. But just a number.

                    Hello NTS:
Interesting post. I've never seen a unit numbered Vietnam pole top,
so I would love to see an example of same. Meanwhile here is an
example of a NVA Best Unit Award flag. Seen any with unit numbers ?

Here it is, SD7BB, 7th Inf Div, circa 62/63 I think.

Exactly based on the french flag pole.

About the NVA flags with unit numbers, I have seen some, but never been convinced about their authenticity....

Another variation from the 1971 armed forces day parade.

I will see if i can grab more images.

                            So what's the difference?

In the 1971 Army book, the eagle is described as the Dau Quan Ky (Army Flag) whereas the spear is the Dau Hieu Ky (Command Flag)... Well...

Here is another image from the incredible "Life" magazine archive.

Thought that a certain flag collector may appreciate the image.
