Brian, for the record I did not declare this cap to be bad. I don't know anything about them. I didn't like the stamp. I can't go any further than the stamp and the snap.

What I mean is that when I handle an item (SS Panzer wrap, FJ smock, M44 tunic, etc, etc) and I am suspicious about it, I look at the markings first. I believe in "where's there's smoke, there's fire", so the markings are just the start. I always look deeper ...

I will say that to date the markings/ stamps are the weakness on most fakes. Badges, caps, documents, uniforms, helmet liners, firearms, etc, etc. But again, it is just my first step in the authentication process and never the absolute ending.

      Hello.

I also think this cap is a copy.

I don't like the stamps, the bavarian cockade looks like an officer one and the landsturm cross should carry the motto "In Treue Fest".

Here are pictures of mine (Baden). The closing system at the back is done by two hooks (one is missing).

      Best regards

The bavarian motto is "In Treue Fest", the mine is from Baden and should normally carry the motto "Mit Gott fur fuerst und vaterland". The cross on my helmet is with the prussian text "Mit Gott fur Koenig und vaterland", it seems that it's because the Baden Landstrum regiment 110 wore the name from "Kaiser Wilhelm I" , king of Prussia...?

I think the use of a Prym Original snap in the construction which is absolutely post-May 1945, the presence of liner stamps which are known to be used on reproduction caps of this type, the exceptionally good condition and lack of wear for a piece so old, and the issue with the insignia (noted just below) are sufficient to say, unfortunately, that this cap is a reproduction.

I recently found my great great grandfather was in the landsturm from 1915 till the end of the war. I would love to get my hands on one of these.
