Nothing I've encountered in the last 50 years. Any chance of getting pictures of the whole helmet, inside and out?

IMO, it could be legit, or period (1919-1920) souvenir painted. Hans?

The camo and everything else looks right. As to the star and monogram - whether it's German or a U.S. souvenir or something else - I can't add anything at the moment.

If it would be an "M" and a "D", it could be the abbreviation for "Magen David", the Hebrew word for "Star of David".

                    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_of_David

But it seems to be a "G", not a "D"

Thus I have no further explanation.

                      Fritz,

Just a guess, but it could be "GI Art" for the 6th US Infantry Division in WW1 which fought at Muese-Argonne.

Their Divisional symbol is the 6 pointed Star.

The MG, could stand for "Machine Gun" Battalion, since the 6th Division had three (3) Machine Gun Battalions.

The 16th...17th...and the 18th Machine Gun Battalions.

Here is a painted WW1 Helmet from the 6th Infantry Division with the 6 pointed star......

Too me it definitely looks like a Star of David. Maybe used with the Jewish resistance in Europe or Palestine.

I would guess the German was Jewish and the M G . is a Jewish thing. Or he was in the WW1 Jewish MG owners club ! Rob
